Kazakhstan: To-be 2010 Chairperson of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe

ALMATY – As the Kazakh government is about to begin its role as the 2010 Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the country continues to violate its OSCE human rights commitments, Forum18 reported on December 23.  Instances include the arrest of a pastor for praying with one of his female congregants, a Muslim secondary school teacher who has been warned not to wear a hijab at school and the continued attempt by authorities to close Christian-run rehabilitation center for people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.
