UK: Sikh Judge Criticizes Restrictions on Kirpan

LONDON – Sir Moto Singh, a retired Sikh judge, has criticized a number of cases where Sikhs have been refused entry to venues because they wear the Kirpan or other religious attire, the BBC reported on February 8.  In 2009 a schoolboy was banned from wearing his Kirpan at the Compton School in Barnet, north London, while a Sikh police officer who had been told to remove his turban during riot training, won a discrimination case against Greater Manchester Police.
