Uzbekistan: Government Deports 2 for Religious Activity

TASHKENT – It has come to light that the government deported a Russian Protestant, Andrei Tsepurkin, and a British Baha’i, Sepehr Taheri in late 2009 on charges of religious activity, Forum 18 reported on February 16.  Forum 18 reports that no official of the government’s Religious Affairs Committee in Tashkent would comment on why foreign citizens legally residing in Uzbekistan are restricted in freely practicing their faith with fellow believers.
