Further Reading: Indonesia Blasphemy Law Trial

The Jakarta Globe reports on the current trial on the 1965 Law on the Prevention of Blasphemy and Abuse of Religion in Indonesia.  The blasphemy law dates back to the last years of former President Sukarno’s rule, and was challenged in 2009 by the late Gus Dur.  Arswendo Atmowiloto, a prominent senior journalist, appeared as a witness at the Constitutional Court to speak about his imprisonment in 1990 under the blasphemy law over the outcome of a survey calling for readers to rank their heroes, in which the prophet Muhammad was listed as 11th.
