Switzerland: Muslim Groups Seek Separate Cemeteries

BERN – Swiss Muslim groups are calling for all cantons to create cemeteries reserved for Muslims, and the president of the Coordination of Islamic Organization of Switzerland Farhad Afshar announced that he is preparing a legal case to fight for the Muslim groups’ right to freedom of religion, World Radio Switzerland reported on March 15.  This comes after the Koniz, a suburb of Bern, rejected the idea of creating a separate burial ground for Muslims.  Islamic law stipulates that Muslims cannot be buried with individuals of other faiths.
