Russia: Government Raids Lutheran Church Service

KALUGA – Officer Senichev informed Forum 18 that police had in fact raided the Sunday morning service held by St. George’s Lutheran congregation on February 28, Forum 18 reported on March 23.  Officer Senichiv informed Forum 18 that the police had received an anonymous call reporting the presence of extremist literature at the service.  Pastor Martyshenko told Forum 18 that eleven police officers armed with automatic weapons and accompanied by police dogs burst into the service, looking for alleged “extremist literature.”  While no such literature was found, the raid lasted for an hour.
