Nepal: Nation Debates Whether State Should Remain Secular

KATHMANDU – As the May 28 deadline for completing a draft of a new constitution approaches, tensions in the nation have increased over whether or not the nation will remain secular, rather than a Hindu State, the London Guardian reported on April 27.  Christian groups have been pushing for religious freedom to be protected in the new constitution.  The current interim constitution limits religious conversion, stating that no one shall be entitled “to convert another person from one religion to another.”
