Further Reading: Tensions in Legal System of Lebanon

An AFP article, examines some of the current tensions within Lebanon’s legal system.  In 2009 a judge ruled that citizens may remove their religious affiliation from their identity cards.  And, while the nation’s 18 religious communities have precedence in determining personal status laws for their adherents, this has led to some confusion regarding a national conception of the purview of human rights.
