Cuba: Raul Castro Meets with Catholic Church Leaders

HAVANA – Following talks between Catholic Church leaders, Cardinal Jaime Ortega and Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba Dionisia Garcia, and President Raul Castro on May 19 the government has agreed to move political prisoners to facilities closer to their hometowns and to transfer sick prisoners to hospitals, Reuters reported on May 22.  This is the first meeting the Cuban Catholic Church has had with Raul Castro since he took over the presidency of the Communist-ruled island from Fidel Castro in 2008.
