Bangladesh: Government Temporarily Blocks Access to Facebook Over Cartoons

DHAKA – The government has temporarily blocked access to Facebook after satirical images of the prophet Muhammad and the nation’s leaders were uploaded, BBC reported on May 30.  One unidentified man was arrested on May 29 by the elite Rapid Action Battalion in Dhaka and charged with uploading the images.  Acting chair of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Hasan Mahmud Delwar, announced: “Facebook will be re-opened once we erase the pages that contain the obnoxious images.”
