Further Reading: Afghani Officials Suspend Two Christian Foreign Aid Groups

Time Magazine reports on the recent suspension of two Christian foreign aid groups, Church World Service and Church Aid, by officials in Afghanistan on suspicion of proselytizing.  Mohammad Hashim Mayar, the deputy director of the Afghan government office that oversees nongovernment organizations, said that both groups will not be allowed to operate while the allegations, aired May 30 on Afghan television, are investigated.  Both aid groups deny the allegations, and Mayer said officials did not have any evidence of proselytizing beyond the television report.
