Canada: Court of Appeal Hears Case Involving Right to Wear Veil

TORONTO – The Ontario Court of Appeal on June 8 deliberated over whether or not a Muslim woman may wear the niqab in the witness stand, the Toronto Star reported on June 8. The Court is hearing the case of N.S., a woman known only by her initials due to a publication ban.  She is appealing a judge’s order that she remove her niqab while testifying against her uncle and cousin, Magbul and Maksud S., who are charged with sexually assaulting her as a child.
