Uzbekistan: City of Samarkand Strips Seventh Church of State Registration

SAMARKAND – After having lost its case at the Supreme Court, the Central Protestant Church is still fighting to regain its state registration status after having been stripped in 2009 of the designation on charges of “crude mistakes and inadequacies,” rendering all its religious activity illegal and its leaders and members liable to punishment, Forum 18 reported on June 15.  The Central Church is the seventh Protestant church, to Forum 18’s knowledge, to have been stripped of registration status by the Regional Justice Department in the city of Samarkand in the past four years.
