Pakistan: Christian Man Detained on Blasphemy Charges Found Dead

LAHORE – Robert Fanish, a Christian man detained on blasphemy charges, was found dead in his jail cell on September 15, the NY Times reported on September 16.  The inspector general of prisons for Punjab Province, Kokab Nadeem Warriach, declined to say whether he believed that Mr. Fanish’s death was allowed or perpetrated by police guards, while the Joint Action Committee for People’s Rights said in a statement that it had talked to witnesses who saw marks of torture on his body.
